Read MoreA Knoxville native, Brittany Lavender was the first person in her family to go to college. She liked that South College, Knoxville was close to home and the friendly, welcoming atmosphere felt right. As to what program she should choose, she had no doubts. It was Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) all the way. “I knew I wanted to make a difference and being a nurse was for me,” says Brittany.

Then, when his wife had X-rays done, he realized he could see himself in the medical imaging field. While the idea of going back to school in his thirties felt overwhelming, he took a leap and called South College. “I was helped every step of the way to get enrolled,” he says. “Before I knew it, I was signed up for classes and headed towards a new career.”
Read MoreSince earning a Doctor of Physical Therapy from South College, Kaleb Whitehair has excelled in the field, with a focus on athletic performance and injury management. He is currently a Sports Physical Therapist Fellow at the University of Houston and Memorial Hermann Health System. In this role, he helps manage rehabilitation and athletic training room operations, attends practices and games, tracks injuries, and conducts athletic tests. At the same time, Kaleb is on a team studying imbalances and weaknesses in athletes’ shoulders and upper bodies that could increase their risk of injury. He is also a student mentor and educator.

As a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, Lily Ayers works in acute care at Blount Memorial Hospital. She helps patients progress on their healing journey by conducting treatment sessions focusing on activities like dressing, grooming, oral care, toileting, and bathing post-surgery. “Each session is unique in its own way,” she says. “I love to be creative in meeting patients at their current level of function and ability during their hospital stay.”
Read MoreFrom a young age, Kimberly Olden wanted to follow in the footsteps of her mom and become a nurse. She dreamed of caring for mothers and babies—a dream that’s come true thanks in part to earning her nursing degree at South College.
Read MoreAs a home health physical therapist (PT), Madison Allensworth treats adults of all ages with strength, balance, endurance, gait, and range of motion deficits. Her patients range from people who have had orthopedic surgeries, congestive heart failure, and strokes to those who have become paraplegics and amputees. After visiting patients in their homes or an assisted living facility, she creates a plan of care, helps them start treatment, and checks in regularly to assess their progress. Throughout this work, she collaborates closely with other physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, nurses, and doctors.
